Rick Church, president & head coach of CM Services, Inc., was named by Association Trends as one of six 2006 Young & Aspiring Association Professionals
In its announcement, Association Trends, says “They’re the ones who come to mind when a task needs to be done, or when someone is needed to take command...They humbly take advice from executives who are their seniors, but everyone, even sage professionals, asks for their opinion. They hold positions of authority and aspire for even more responsibility. They represent the best of the present and the future of the national association community.”
Since joining CM Services in 1993, Rick has served as communications manager, managing director, associations vice president and, now, head coach. He served on the first AMC Section Council, 1993-2000 and is currently immediate past president of AMCInstitute, where he has also served as chairman or member of many committees. Rick is also a board member of Coverings, the largest international trade show in North American for ceramic tile and stone related products.
In his role as executive director of three association partners, Rick has been at the helm as each has achieved record growth in membership, annual dues and net assets. For example, since Rick took over as executive vice president of the American Fence Association, association membership has grown by more than 20%, annual revenues have doubled, and the association’s trade show, which CM Services produces, has grown by more than 50%. Last year it was recognized as one of the 50 fastest-growing trade shows in North America.
Rick credits the leaders of the association partners he’s worked with for his success. “Volunteer leaders are special and generous people,” he said. “They give their most valuable asset, their time, to their profession or their industry, expecting nothing in return. I have learned something valuable from each leader I have worked with, like balancing life, work and volunteer efforts, how to lead an effective meeting, how to effectively build consensus, and so much more.”
